.Mobi is trending?

Donuts has released its Domain Trend Report for March, showing what keywords and top level domains are trending.

The report includes data from the company’s acquisition of Afilias’ top level domains, including some big ones like .info. This makes the dataset richer; 8 of the company’s top premium registrations in May were from the acquired TLDs .global and .green.

.Global has a high-low model for premium domains, meaning buyers pay a premium the first year and then the regular annual price after that. It took the top three spots on the list with ims.global, bt.group, and mb.group.

You could argue that the fourth domain — work.live — is more impressive because it has Donuts’ traditional high-high model in which the premium is paid each year. Work.live costs about $3,000 per year to maintain.

The top TLD for new registrations is the “old” top level domain .info, which was part of the Afilias acquisition. Here’s the full list of the top 10 Donuts’ TLDs for new registrations in May:

1. .info
2. .live
3. .life
4. .world
5. .digital
6. .ltd
7. .email
8. .agency
9. .studio
10. .mobi

.Mobi made the list? I wonder what happened there. It appears to have surged in the APAC region; it doesn’t make the top 10 list in any other region.

I’m even more perplexed by one of the trending keywords in second level domains. Can you think why letter made the list?

1. today
2. letter
3. first
4. digital
5. online
6. home
7. best
8. meta
9. tech
10. data
